WELCOME TO THE TREASURE COAST
New to the area?
Start with the government that actually serves your address. From north to south: St. Lucie County, Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Martin County, Jensen Beach, and Stuart.
FIRST THING TO KNOW
Your mailing city does not always tell you which rules apply.
Before relying on an ordinance, permit page, trash schedule, or utility link, confirm whether your property is inside a city limit or in the unincorporated county. The sections below point to the official sources for each jurisdiction.
COUNTY
St. Lucie County
Countywide resources are useful whether you live in Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, or an unincorporated part of the county.
CITY
Fort Pierce
Fort Pierce has its own municipal code and city services in addition to St. Lucie County resources.
CITY
Port St. Lucie
Use these when the property is inside Port St. Lucie city limits.
COUNTY
Martin County
Martin County links are especially useful for county-level services and for properties outside Stuart city limits.
COMMUNITY
Jensen Beach
For most local-government needs in Jensen Beach, start with Martin County resources, then use the school, tax, emergency, and utility links that apply to your address.
CITY
Stuart
Use Stuart's city resources when the property is inside Stuart city limits; Martin County services still cover county-level functions.
NEW HOUSE CHECKLIST
A few Florida-specific things worth checking early.
- Confirm which city or county jurisdiction actually covers your address.
- Set up water, sewer, electric and trash service with the correct provider.
- Bookmark your city and county code pages before planning fences, sheds, trailers, renovations or other property changes.
- Save the correct county emergency-management page before hurricane season.
- Check school assignment, library, parks and local public-service resources.
- Update driver license and vehicle records when required.
- Learn where the main water shutoff and pool equipment disconnect are located.
- If the house came with a pool, get familiar with the equipment and establish a chemistry baseline.
NEW HOUSE. NEW POOL?
We can help you get the pool side sorted too.
If your new home came with a pool, Dr. Pools can help you understand the equipment, check the water, and quote service where weekly routes are available.
